School Photos

It is one of those days that most school aged children hate, picture day. Parents however see this day as a day of monumental importance, it is after all the way many parents record their children’s school career. School photos are a way to preserve your child just the way he/she is at that stage of their life.

So, how does a parent ensure that the pictures taken of their child turn out looking like something they want to put on the wall and send to family members? There are some simple steps to take to ensure that your child’s school photos turn out ok.

Fist it is important to understand that background can make or break any photograph. These days parents get a choice of backgrounds. In the 70’s and 80’s it was a blue background for everyone and that was it, but these days there is usually a choice between several different colors. The key to making sure that your school photos have a good foundation is to decide which color best suits your child, and what your child will allow you to dress them in!

Everyone has a set of colors that they prefer, as well as a sense of fashion. Your child’s school photos will reflect their personal preferences. They are colors that you would look well in if you were wearing them. To decide which color is right for the back ground for your child’s school photos that about what color he or she looks best in, as well as the background color, if you can get a heads up on that.

Once you have decided on the background color then consider what your child will be wearing. You don’t want him or her to fade into the background because the color they are wearing blends into the background. It is important that your child’s clothes accent the background so that the child is the most noticeable thing in the school photos.

Hair is usually the reason most images do not turn out. It happens time and time again, a parent sends their child off to school dressed nicely and looking presentable but then somewhere between their leaving the house and the picture taking moment a huge wind storm comes along and they look like Albert Einstein in their final photo.

The way a parent can combat this is to send a comb to school with their child. Depending on the age of your child you may have to call ahead to the school and ask that they help but if you give older school children a comb and instructions there is at least a chance their hair may get combed before the school photos.

Finally, talk to your child and tell them what your expectations are. Usually, if you share with them your desire to get school photos that they can be proud to share with the family, they will try and do their best to make you smile when you see them.

Animal Photos
... animals are just for children, but boy are they all mistaken. They might look at cute animal photos when they are small, but as they grow, they assume that, like cuddly stuffed bears, these pictures of animals are best left to childhood. Oh sure, trying to be cute, their boss might leave animal photos up around the office as a pleasant, if boring decoration, but no one ever thinks about these pictures at all. I really do think that this is a great shame. As a professional animal photographer, it should be no surprise that I like animal photos, but the reasons might be things that you have never thought about. One of the greatest things about animal photos is that they really can capture any emotion that you can think about. People are often reserved about showing what is going on inside them, but reserve is not really anything that shows up too frequently among the members of the animal kingdom. In animal photos, we have the chance to...

Cat Photos
... caption that reads "so many cats, so few recipes". The friend that sent the cat photos with that one included knows that I collect recipes so he thought this was extra humorous. Along with the funny cat photos I also have a wide variety of pictures of cats that are sweet and dignified. The great thing about cat photos is that cat lovers and haters both enjoy looking at them. As I was looking through several cat photos the other day I noticed that I School Photos had many that showed cats sleeping in a variety of positions and in a variety of places. I guess this is not surprising considering cats sleep about 20 hours out of every day. I thought it would be fun to make copies of the sleeping cat photos and spread them throughout the guest bedroom. Nothing...

Africa Photos
... dancing around with spears and wild animals leaping across the plains. Things like National Geographic tend to reinforce stereotypes with their Africa wildlife photos, and their tribal photos, and ignore the other side of Africa. Nonetheless, as any fan of Africa photos knows, this exotic side is one of the greatest draws there is and is what bring many people - perhaps most tourists - to the continent. As a photojournalist, I have spent many months taking photos of Africa in between my wider travels in Europe and Asia, and I can tell you that there is an air of excitement to the land that is completely unlike anywhere else where I have ever traveled. The Africa photos just do not begin to capture all of the sites, sounds, and textures of this rich continent. The dryness of the deserts, the heat of the North, and the richness of peoples, cultures, and languages can simply not be captured. They are all things which I simply can not include in any of my Africa photos...

Black And White Photos
... white photos. This really targets the focus of the subject. For example, one of the most striking wedding images is a black and white photo of a bride and groom. School Fund Raiser
... home notices asking fees for different activities as well as supplies for classes. I do not remember this from when I was in school. For some classes we needed to have a certain kind of paper or writing utensil, however these were in the upper grades. My children began needing special supplies in elementary school. When my son was in second grade he brought home information regarding a school fund raiser that he was going to be involved with to help raise money to buy a computer for their science class. This particular school fund raiser involved selling various office supplies. This made sense since a large office supplier sponsored the fundraiser. The office supplier was going to offer them money off of the computer based on how many supplies were sold. There were many things to buy including printer paper, bulk pens and pencils, ink cartridges, address labels and other office supplies… ” School Fund Raiser - How Much Is...
