The Municipality of Anchorage is a “Unified Home Municipality”, meaning, the United States government has granted it power to govern its regional or local levels. Municipality of Anchorage is the official name of the city of Anchorage. The estimated population of the Municipality of Anchorage is 280,000. Founded on the year 1915, Anchorage was named after a dry docked steam ship that was a popular hardware and clothing store at that time.

The Municipality of Anchorage is governed by an elected mayor, a city assemble or city council and city manager. The Municipality of Anchorage is the heart of Alaska’s commerce. Anchorage is also one of Alaska’s major ports. The port in Anchorage receives over ninety-five percent of all freight that enters Alaska. Anchorage is also the major hub of the Alaska Railroad. Many oil and gas producers have their headquarters in Anchorage. The Municipality of Anchorage is home of the top communication services companies of Alaska. Lots of corporations like transportation, real estate, banks, communications, and government agencies made the Municipality of Anchorage their home base.

The Municipality of Anchorage has lots of tourist facilities and services. Almost all of the tourist and visitors of Alaska pass through the Municipality of Anchorage because the main terminal of Alaska Railroad is located on the Municipality of Anchorage. The education in the Municipality of Anchorage is administered by the Anchorage School District which also is one of the largest districts in the United States. Its public schools are among the best schools in United States of America. Advance Placement courses are presented on all of the districts larger high school.

The medical centers and hospital of Anchorage offers the most comprehensive array of services in the state of Alaska. Anchorage has a full complement of utilities. It has two electric companies. One of which is owned by the Municipality of Anchorage. Anchorage also has a natural gas company that serves almost ninety percent of the homes in Anchorage. The “Water and Wastewater Utility” is owned and operated by the Municipality of Anchorage.

Anchorage serves as a main airline hub not just for the state of Alaska but also for the world. The “Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport” is most of the time the starting and ending point of most airlines. Anchorage is primarily served by the Seattle-based national airline called “Alaska Airlines”. Anchorage also has a central bus system called the “People Mover”. However the routes of the People Mover are limited. The sidewalks of Anchorage are regularly covered with mounds of snow and ice during cold months.
