Christmas Is Not Just About Toys

We are entering my favorite time of the year. I love holiday time. I enjoy decorating and baking my family’s favorite holiday recipes and also making those special gifts for everyone on my list. Now that our family is expanding to include grandchildren this is even a more magical time of the year for us.

When our own children were toddlers we did not have a great deal of money to spend on toys for Christmas. I tried to get something special for everyone, but we also needed to include practical items as gifts. This meant that stocking stuffers usually included socks and underwear instead of luxury items.

We also bought other clothing items for the children. Most of the toys for Christmas that our children received were from their grandparents. This worked out well because it gave the children something to do during the holiday time that was spent at the grandparent’s houses.

Now that we are the grandparents and have more financial resources we are the ones that get to shop for and provide the toys for Christmas. I have to admit that the toys have changed greatly since our children were young. Everything is either electronic or battery operated.

This year when my husband and I went to find gifts for our children and their families we decided that we wanted to give them more than material things, we wanted to give them a means to spend family time together. Instead of buying toys for Christmas for the youngsters and clothing or other items for the adults we decided to make family gift baskets.

Just Remember, Its not just about getting toys for christmas

John the Baptist in the Christmas Story
Most people know about the Christmas Story and how Jesus was born. And, it's no wonder .. The story of Christmas is the greatest story ever told so there is no surprise that John the Baptist is not always the focus of attention. With that said, I want to introduce another part of the Christmas story which is often neglected. It's about John the Baptist. Childrens Toy Chest
... sliding top. A toy chest can be plain or very ornate. Depending on where you want it to be while determine the type you'll want to invest in. If it's going to be sitting in a corner out of sight an inexpensive version will certainly suffice. I own a coffee table that has a tabletop that flips up and turns into a bench with a hidden toy box underneath. This coffee table has held my children's Lego's for years. While the toys are readily available for after school play, the toy chest appears to be little more than a coffee table when company is over. This type of toy chest can make any busy mother's day a little less stressful. Teaching a youngster to keep a room tidy can be much easier when a toy chest is involved. Many children respond...

Little Tikes Playhouses
... mother still does this and I'm 30 years old. Regardless of how much attention kids need, one single aspect of having them is unavoidable. I am talking about toys. There's no escaping the toy issue. And when I say no escaping, I'm talking about ever. They will pester, Christmas Is Not Just About Toys agitate and just plain bug you to death about toys, toys, and more toys. It's a never-ending cycle. The more they get, the more they want. There's no escape. Well, since this is our cold, hard reality, the trick is to get them toys that they'll enjoy to the fullest and stay occupied with. This in trade allows you to get things done. Furthermore, you want to get your money's worth. That being said, some of the most useful toys I've ever come across are little tikes playhouses. These babies...

Christmas Lights
... my Christmas storage prior to making any new purchases. But then I will be out shopping and will see a pre-season sale and cannot pass up the bargain. It seems that each year the Christmas merchandise hits the shelves earlier. Last year on Labor Day weekend when I was searching through the school supply aisle I noticed that the Christmas lights Christmas Is Not Just About Toys were displayed in the next aisle. It seems that the same day that the Halloween Candy goes on clearance is the same day that the Christmas candy goes on the shelves. Last year I did not pass up the pre-season Christmas lights. They were a very good deal and I could not remember if the Christmas lights from the year before worked or not. Of course when I did take decorations out of storage I found...

Christmas Decorations
... enjoy is baking and candy making. It is the time of year that people do not seem to be concerned about what they eat. It is so much fun to entertain this time of year because the Christmas decorations on cookies and candies add a festive look to the platters. From the day after Thanksgiving until New Years I make sure that I have Christmas goodies available to share with anyone that drops by. I make special snack mixes that are both sweet and salty to take along to other's homes. I also make special treats to place on co-workers desks. I enjoy life throughout the year but nothing can replace the magical feelings I get when I hang the first Christmas Is Not Just About Toys Christmas decorations each...

Popular Christmas Gifts
... for Christmas? Come on, everybody goes through that at least once. Those relatives that we hardly know drop by around the holidays, or maybe send a package of stuff we can only shake our heads at. What were they thinking? When it comes to the holidays and special occasions, don't get a tacky set of tube socks for your loved ones. With the resources at our disposal these days, it is a synch to find perfect birthday presents and popular Christmas gifts to suit anyone. I recall a few years back when my family thought it would be a great idea to draw names from a hat for Christmas. The concept basically derived from a desperate attempt to save money. We would each draw one name from a hat, and then we would only be obligated to buy that particular person a Christmas gift. Sounds...

Online Greeting Cards
There are good and bad things you can say about online greeting cards. I love to send cards out to those I love, but that does not mean I always get around to it time. A perfect example is that I have all of my Christmas cards still sitting on my table. That wouldn’t be remarkable except for Christmas Is Not Just About Toys the fact that it is now the middle of January. However, my friends know that if they get a Christmas card from me before Christmas that something may be very, very wrong. When someone you know is sad, or perhaps having a very hard time, you most definitely want to send them a greeting card to the mail. Even though you can use online greeting cards for …. ” Online Greeting Cards - Reserved for lighter situations “

Artificial Christmas Trees Are Taking Over the Holiday Season
In days of old, the holiday season was filled with the smells of roasted turkey, pumpkin pie Christmas Is Not Just About Toys and pine trees.  Today, sadly, many homes only get the “fresh” smell of a Christmas pine tree when someone is burning a pine-scented candle. It isn’t any secret that the artificial trees are becoming more and more “lifelike” than every before.  Artificial Christmas Trees in the past were stiff, uncompromising and did not arrive with lights already strung.  For many, the idea of setting up an artificial tree, stringing the lights and dealing with storage wasn’t that far off from traveling to purchase a natural tree, stringing the lights and disposing of the dried tree at the end of the holiday season. Using a natural tree provided that fresh holiday pine scent and for a little extra money and effort each year, it was worth buying fresh for many...

Baby Hamper
After that happens, the baby hamper may also become a place for scary toys. This is something my daughter did. She was scared of the eyes on a few of her toys, and the baby hamper she has was the perfect place to hide them while she slept. Through the last few years, that hamper has stayed with her as a hiding spot (and many other things) while most of the rest of her nursery items were replaced with something else. A hamper might seem simple enough, but in the eyes of a child, it is so much more than just a place for dirty clothes. Buy something sturdy, and something that will last so you aren’t replacing it time and time Christmas Is Not Just About Toys again. Full article at : Baby Hamper

Christmas Storage
... as many of the original boxes and packaging for each item as possible. This does increase the space I need for Christmas storage, but it also prolongs the looks of the items. Also the boxes can be stacked neatly inside of the plastic bins without concern of breakage. I do decorate in stages. The villages and the outdoor lights are put out the day after Thanksgiving. When I am putting away the Christmas storage I arrange the tubs so that the ones that are needed first are in the front. Each bin is clearly marked with permanent marker regarding what is in it. I also have numbered the bins so if my husband is putting them away he can arrange them numerically and I will have what I need first closest to the Christmas Is Not Just About Toys door. Some items I dispose of at the end of each season. The small lights that are placed on the tree are very inexpensive and bulky to store. Also...

Christmas
... of year when you walk outside, the air smells crisp and the skies are a little grey. Jack Frost has touched the window panes with his magic fingers and the ice scraper needs to come out of the glove box in order to scrape off the front car window. Street lights take on a new aura as their red and green lights blink on and off. You begin to drive down the side streets on your way home to see who has the best light show on their lawn, and the children have sent their wish lists off to Santa. If you haven't guessed what time of year it is, it is Christmas time. Christmas itself represents a Holiday season that has...

Jc Penney

The end of the year JC Penney Catalog offers its Christmas edition, which has a great selection of unique gift items, seasonal displays and decorations, holiday attire, and children's toys. Everything you need to celebrate the season! Most of us grew up with JC Penney. I know that when I was young, all of my clothes and toys came from there. Most if not all of the linens in out house also were from JC Penney. My mother never bought those items anywhere else, even after discount stores like Wal-Mart and Target started offering the similar items. Why would you want to veer away from a good thing when you know you will always find what you want with great prices, quality, and service at JC Penney?! Though the company has...
