The British Virgin Islands is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. It consists of over 50 islands and cays located in the Caribbean, to the east of Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands. Originally, it is a part of the Dutch Empire but the islands are acquired by Britain in 1972. The Islands names were named after Saint Ursula by Christopher Columbus.
